OUR WASTE TO ENERGY PLANTS ARE DESIGNED TO TREAT PROBLEMATIC CONTAMINATED ORGANIC WASTES
INCLUDING GRADE C WOOD FINES, ANAEROBIC DIGESTION SCREENINGS, CAT 1 INTERNATIONAL CATERING WASTE, COMPOSTED OVERSIZE, POULTRY FEATHERS, FISH MORTALITIES AND MATERIALS WITH INHERENTLY LOW BULK DENSITY OR PARTICLE SIZES
Problematic can be summed up in many ways, either the waste is costly to process by other methods because it has “hard to separate” contamination with it, in the form of plastics or other none organics, or because the waste has very unusual fluid, moisture content or particle size characteristics that other waste to energy systems have trouble processing.
The Tidy Planet systems comply with the Industrial Emissions Directive and the by product of heat from the process can be used to generate electricity, or the useable heat generated can be transferred in the form of steam, thermal oil or high pressure hot water. Because of the systems many innovations, materials of up to 50% moisture content can be treated and materials that have particle size of less than 1.0mm.
CAT 1 INTERNATIONAL CATERING WASTE
For international catering wastes (CAT1 ICW) Tidy Planet have developed a type specific, energy plant for the on site treatment of packaged airline catering wastes. Where previously the only disposal routes for ICW was collection and disposal by deep landfill or specialist registered incineration, producers of these wastes were tied to heavy collection and disposal costs. Now though with Tidy Planets latest DEFRA approved innovation, these wastes (with packaging) can be treated at source eliminating the need for costly collections. For those with the need, the output from the system can be used to heat tray wash systems, oil heated cookers or air handling units, further reducing business costs by lowering the sites fossil fuel needs. Plant is already in operation and demonstrable at locations such as Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Cleaning oversize for use as a biomass fuel can involve costly labour and separation equipment and often with fluctuating seasonal markets, producers of oversize can find themselves with varying opportunities to dispose of the wastes. Having an on site waste type specific, permanent solution on site that has been developed by Tidy Planet to generate energy gives the producer a stable fixed cost future for the treatment of the wastes. The energy is generated in the form of heat through an IED compliant biomass plant which has been developed specifically to deal with the emissions of burning the none organic fraction of plastics as well as being able to deal with the corrosive nature of the oversize itself. With the ability to treat up to 300mm particle size means no extra costs for second shredding or screening being necessary and with the capability of dealing with up to 50%MC even the freshest of oversize can be dealt with. On applications above 2500 tpa the plant can be specified as thermal oil output, giving much greater efficiency (18-23%) for a supplementary system of electricity generation. ANAEROBIC DIGESTION SCREENINGS
Front end contamination from an Anaerobic Digestion plant, plastics, bio ware, rag and bones that have been pre-screened before or after being shredded are heavy & moisture laden and cannot pass to the AD plant itself because of the danger it poses to the mechanical process downstream. Tidy Planet have already trialled these wastes and through an existing process are able to separate the residual organics from the heavy contamination. The residual organics in a dried format can then be re-presented to the AD plant to benefit from the inherent value and the none organic now in a dried format can either be further separated for RDF / SRF or potentially used to generate heat & power through a 2nd energy plant process that Tidy Planet will design specifically for the type of residual wastes being screened. Plant sizes from 500-50,000tpa, particle sizes up to 300mm and MC of up to 50%.
0-10MM WASTE WOOD FINES
Tidy Planet are in a unique position with their waste to energy system that has been designed to treat low density materials, where the system has a unique feature allowing the plant to process large volumes of ultra fine woody product even to the degree of sub 1mm particle sizes. This coupled with an IED Complaint biomass energy plant allows contaminated waste wood (Grade C) to be processed with contamination such as Formica, glass, plastics, MDF, particle board having not been screened prior. Ideal for wood processors who have a need for heat for drying biomass Roundwood the Tidy Planet wood waste system is demonstrable in a number of scales at 5mw and above. (10,000tpa)
Current designs of the Tidy Planet energy systems allow the processing of animal bedding with faeces, without the need for pelletising prior. A simple integrated workaround solution has been developed and built into this waste specific design to deal with the issues of clinker build up that troubles other plant types. The ability to treat up to 50%MC allows multiple types of animal bedding applications. The first client specific installation taking place in 2017 for zoo wastes, with the heat derived from the system being used to provide the much needed heat for the animal blocks on site.
